Laboratory Animal Trainer
Job Responsibilities:
- Handle mice and rats safely while assessing animal health, pain, and distress.
- Deliver hands-on training in dosing, bleeding, anesthesia monitoring, and other study support procedures.
- Conduct classroom training sessions and participate in recurring training meetings.
- Review and update SOPs, training materials, and Computer-Based Training (CBT) modules.
- Coordinate and schedule global training activities.
- Work with trainers, veterinarians, IACUC, and subject matter experts.
- Maintain training records and perform data entry in electronic management systems.
- Support audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance.
- Manage training colonies and maintain animal records.
- Collaborate with research teams to develop new procedures under leadership guidance.
Skills:
- Laboratory animal handling (mice and rats)
- Hands-on training and coaching
- Rodent dosing, bleeding, and anesthesia monitoring
- Knowledge of IACUC, AAALAC, and Animal Welfare Regulations
- SOP and training documentation
- Data entry and electronic record management
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a research environment
- Attention to detail and regulatory compliance
Education/Experience:
- BS/BA degree with 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience in laboratory animal training and rodent handling.
- Knowledge of The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Preferred: LATG certification.
- Preferred: Pharmaceutical industry and/or laboratory animal training experience.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, wear PPE (including N-95 or PAPR), and work in Biosafety Cabinets.
- Willingness to travel up to 10%.
