Welder
The Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welding and fabrication of gates, frames, and structural components used in water control systems. This includes welding a variety of materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The Welder must be able to read blueprints, interpret welding symbols, and ensure all work meets quality, safety, and dimensional specifications. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and experienced in industrial metal fabrication. Key Responsibilities:
- Perform MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and cast-iron components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to determine welding requirements.
- Fabricate gate structures, parts, and assemblies according to technical specifications and tolerances.
- Grind, cut, or clean metal parts as needed to prepare for welding.
- Inspect finished welds for structural integrity, dimensional accuracy, and appearance.
- Use measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, squares) to verify part dimensions.
- Perform weld repairs as required to correct defects or inconsistencies.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S and safety standards.
- Follow company safety procedures and always wear appropriate PPE.
- Assist with material handling and movement of large, fabricated assemblies using cranes or forklifts.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2+ years of experience in industrial welding and metal fabrication.
- Proficient in MIG and Stick welding; TIG welding experience preferred.
- Ability to weld various materials, including stainless steel and cast iron.
- Familiarity with reading blueprints and welding symbols.
- Strong understanding of welding safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Formal welding training or certification from a technical school or trade program.
- AWS or other welding certifications (or ability to pass weld tests on-site).
- Experience working in water control equipment or heavy steel fabrication.
- Experience with rigging and or crane operation desired.
- Regular exposure to welding fumes, sparks, and hot materials.
- Required to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods.
- Work is performed indoors in a shop environment; it may involve occasional outdoor tasks.
- You must wear PPE including a welding helmet, gloves, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection.
