General Summary: The Assistant Professor and Program and Clinical Coordinator for Surgical Technology is a full-time faculty position responsible for the academic leadership, instruction, and administration of the Associate Degree Surgical Technology program. The coordinator ensures program compliance with institutional requirements, accreditation standards, and clinical partner expectations while supporting student success and workforce readiness.
The coordinator provides oversight of curriculum, faculty, clinical education, and program assessment while teaching within the program and fulfilling all contractual faculty responsibilities. This position includes two reassigned time each semester to support program and clinical coordination duties.
As part of launching a new program at the College, this role offers a unique opportunity to develop the Surgical Technology Program. During the program's inaugural year, the faculty member will focus primarily on program development and implementation efforts, including curriculum development, accreditation alignment, development of clinical site partnerships, etc.. This foundational work will ensure the program is positioned for long-term excellence and student success.
Duties And Responsibilities
Instruction and Faculty Responsibilities:
- Teach assigned courses within the Surgical Technology program consistent with contractual workload.
- Provide didactic, laboratory, and/or clinical instruction that supports achievement of program competencies.
- Maintain current professional knowledge, clinical expertise, and instructional effectiveness.
- Participate in professional development and credential maintenance activities.
- Contribute to student advising, retention, and success initiatives.
Program Coordination And Academic Leadership
- Provide administrative and academic leadership for the Surgical Technology program.
- Oversee curriculum development, implementation, and systematic review to ensure alignment with professional standards and workforce needs.
- Ensure program policies, procedures, and student progression requirements are maintained and consistently applied.
- Lead program assessment processes, including monitoring enrollment, retention, completion, credentialing outcomes, and employment placement.
- Prepare accreditation reports, self-studies, and annual outcomes submissions as required.
- Maintain documentation demonstrating compliance with accreditation and regulatory expectations.
Clinical Education And Employer Partnerships
- Coordinate clinical education placements and monitor student clinical progress and competency achievement.
- Maintain relationships with clinical affiliates and healthcare partners to ensure high-quality learning environments.
- Orient and communicate program expectations to clinical instructors and site personnel.
- Evaluate clinical sites and ensure alignment with program learning objectives.
- Support development and expansion of employer partnerships and workforce pipelines.
Faculty Supervision And Program Operations
- Recruit, orient, and mentor adjunct faculty assigned to the program.
- Schedule and facilitate program faculty meetings.
- Coordinate selection of textbooks, instructional materials, and laboratory resources.
- Assist with budget planning and ordering of program supplies, equipment, and instructional resources.
- Collaborate with division leadership and related programs to support interdisciplinary initiatives.
Program Development And External Engagement
- Maintain a program advisory committee and coordinate meetings with community and employer representatives.
- Support recruitment and outreach efforts, including information sessions, open houses, and community partnerships.
- Participate in grant development, workforce initiatives, and program expansion efforts as appropriate.
- Represent the program within the college, community, and professional organizations.
College Service
- Participate in departmental, divisional, and college committees.
- Engage in institutional assessment and governance processes.
- Collaborate with student support offices including recruiting, advising, tutoring, and enrollment services.
- Perform additional duties related to the program as assigned by the Dean.
Requirements
- Associate degree or higher in Surgical Technology or closely related field.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a health-related or education field.
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Current national certification in Surgical Technology through a recognized credentialing body.
- Minimum of five years of recent operating room experience and/or surgical technology instruction.
- Knowledge of instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse educational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in a health-related or education field.
- Teaching experience in higher education or allied health programs.
- Experience with accreditation standards, outcomes reporting, and program review.
- Experience supervising faculty or coordinating academic programs.
- Experience developing clinical partnerships or workforce initiatives.

Please note, the faculty rank of Assistant Professor may be subject to change in accordance with Article XVII of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Salary Range: $58,722 is the starting salary for an Assistant Professor with a Bachelor's Degree; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
