SUMMARY: Performs polysomnography data acquisition and scores results. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Understands the basic montage and sets up patients and equipment accurately and quickly. Is able to perform all sleep study modes in accordance with the policy and procedure manual with no supervision. Interacts appropriately and in a helpful manner with patients to extract and record pertinent observations for the record. Performs ongoing physiological and psychological assessment of the patient and integrates this new information with the past record. Scores sleep stages, sleep apnea, hypopnea, and nocturnal myoclonus and recognizes certain EEG and EKG abnormalities and artifacts consistently and in a timely manner. Applies and adjusts CPAP according to the procedure manual and in a manner that promotes maximum acceptance by the patients. Responds quickly and appropriately to medical emergencies that may arise during sleep studies. Maintains an inventory of all equipment and reports shortages early enough to prevent stock outs. Calibrates and maintains all equipment necessary for sleep monitoring to allow for complete and accurate tests. Cleans and disinfects all equipment and maintains logbook in a timely manner. Develops and continues to improve communications with physicians involved in ordering and interpreting sleep disorder tests. Maintains accurate record of sleep studies and results according to ASDC standards. Performs basic troubleshooting and corrects deficiencies to prevent loss of test time in the lab. Reads, reviews and shares with others in the Sleep Lab current literature and changes in sleep research. Represents the department by planning, developing, and presenting educational programs to the public. Executes accurate studies for pediatric, special needs, adult, and geriatric patient populations by applying principles unique to each of the groups. Actively participates in department process improvement program. Strictly adheres to Universal Precautions procedures Performs other duties as may be required Management of Time and Resources: Completes work assignments within an acceptable time frame. Accepts responsibility for all work performed and takes appropriate corrective action as needed MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Is responsible for ongoing development of his/her work skills through the use of available resources (i.e.: inservices, formal educational programs, other work groups and on-the-job training). Attends and participates in staff meetings and inservices and/or reviews documentation as required. Assists in the orientation of others and actively participates in mentoring. Performs analytical and decision-making functions with minimal supervision. Recognizes and seeks assistance/consultation when appropriate. Demonstrates an understanding of relative Hospital and all-departmental policies and procedures including safety issues. Possesses awareness of programs/services provided by Hospital and where they are located. Is cooperative in interactions, treating customers with courtesy, respect and compassion. Is patient when responding to questions and answers questions appropriately? Responds to requests in a timely manner. Handles interruptions in a skillful way. Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor. Strives to prevent/resolve customer concerns to the customer's satisfaction. EDUCATION: Certificate of Completion from a recognized Polysomnography Training Program. Certification or Registration as a Respiratory Therapist or Registration as a Polysomnographer or one year experience as a polysomnography technician preferred
