Responsibilities:
- Working in close partnership with the Addictions Services team members in our East Boston location, the Medical Assistant assists and directs care of patients in the clinic while supporting the work of the nurse and providers by performing all clerical and supportive clinical duties in our Harm Reduction Program.
- Their primary function is to manage efficient patient flow and to be available to assist providers as needed.
- The Medical Assistant is responsible for various clinical skills appropriate to training and scope for the maintenance and control of non-pharmaceutical supplies and equipment, and for assigned support activities.
- The Medical Assistant assumes a range of patient care responsibilities dealing with the physical and emotional aspects of patients with Substance Use Disorders.
- The role includes taking vital signs, collect urine samples and record pertinent patient demographic information, assist with administering SAMHSA’s survey for all patients.
- This also includes answering/triaging incoming calls, interviewing patients for the program, scheduling intake/evaluation visits with the nurse and/or physician, and conducting weekly outreach for patients who missed their appointments.
- The MA may also provide support to the Departments initiatives by compiling data on the program for reporting purposes, meeting documentation requirements, assisting in grant requirements, and following State and governing guidelines.
Education:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Graduation from a Certified Medical Assistant Program
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support)
- Bilingual skills preferred.
Experience:
- Two years experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
Skills/Abilities:
- Meets medical assistant skill level with addition of demonstrated leadership ability.
