Description:
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate quantity takeoffs, detailed cost estimates, and thorough scope reviews for assigned projects. This role includes analyzing project specifications, drawings, and bid documents, as well as maintaining up-to-date cost databases for materials, subcontractors, and labor productivity. The Estimator collaborates closely with project management and operations teams to support successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and scope reviews for assigned projects using digital estimating tools.
- Prepare draft project estimates, including scope inclusions and exclusions, for review with operations and project management teams.
- Support project managers by developing change order estimates as needed.
- Maintain, monitor, and update labor crew cost data and field productivity benchmarks.
- Track and update rental equipment rates and associated costs.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor pricing and estimates as required.
- Develop clear and comprehensive project scopes of work.
- Participate in internal estimate review meetings to ensure accuracy and alignment.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site walks as needed to support the estimating process.
- Provide complete project turnover packages to project managers upon award of contracts.
Minimum job requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, Finance, or related discipline
- Prior internship/co-op experience in the construction industry.
- OSHA 30
- Ability to work with MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. and construction management software.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Proactive, self-starter.
- An understanding of construction operations and strategy and ability to make a practical application to realistic schedules.
- Knowledge of construction practices, activities, and principles.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks concurrently.
- Ability to communicate effectively; both orally and in writing.
