Technical Consultant (Salesforce)
Craftsman Technology Group is an employee-owned firm that supports mission-driven organizations. Our work spans community and economic development, community health, arts and historical institutions, and organizations fostering inclusive communities. We believe technology can be an effective vehicle for change.
Our mission: to help nonprofit organizations grow and thrive.
Our values: be transparent and honest; be fair and accountable; be independent and objective; and be good to our staff, our communities, and the world.
We are seeking a Technical Consultant to join our Technical Services team who will bring these same values and passion to help nonprofit organizations. A Technical Consultant is a client-facing full-time salaried intermediate-level position.
Job Summary:
As a Technical Consultant, you will serve as a bridge between technical solutions and client needs, combining hands-on development expertise with strong communication and consulting skills. Your primary focus will be designing, developing, and deploying Salesforce solutions while working directly with clients to understand their business requirements and translate them into effective technical implementations.
This role is for a technically grounded Salesforce professional who enjoys being a utility player - someone who can troubleshoot a Flow or Apex automation one day, explore data models or reporting the next, and help a client think through how new tools or integrations could support their work over time. The Technical Consultant role grew out of our Salesforce Developer position and remains hands-on and technical, with work across declarative and programmatic Salesforce features. We are also looking for someone who is curious by nature and interested in working beyond Salesforce alone, including exposure to business intelligence and reporting tools, third‑party applications, and emerging technologies, applying them thoughtfully in service of our nonprofit clients.
Job Responsibilities:
Work hands-on in Salesforce to design, build, and improve solutions using both declarative tools (e.g., Flow) and programmatic approaches (e.g., Apex, Lighting Web Components), supporting a range of nonprofit client use cases
Partner with clients and internal teammates to understand business needs, clarify technical requirements into actionable tickets, and translate them into practical, scalable solutions
Serve as a technical problem-solver across a variety of work, including automation, data modeling, integrations, and incremental system improvements
Support and explore integrations between Salesforce and other systems or applications, using APIs or third-party tools as appropriate
Help clients understand and use their data by contributing to reporting, dashboards, and business intelligence efforts, including work with Salesforce reporting and external BI tools
Participate in solution discovery and design conversations, asking thoughtful questions and helping clients evaluate options as their needs evolve
Create clear, helpful documentation and support client enablement through walkthroughs, training, and knowledge transfer
Collaborate closely with Client Success Managers, analysts, and other consultants to deliver work across Managed Services and project-based engagements
Stay curious and engaged with new Salesforce features, third-party applications, and emerging technologies, bringing ideas forward when they may benefit clients or internal practices
Contribute to a culture of learning and improvements by mentoring colleagues, sharing what you discover, whether that's a better way to approach a problem, a useful new tool, or lessons learned from client work
Required Qualifications:
We’re looking for candidates who bring strong technical foundations and a learning mindset.
Salesforce Administrator and Platform Developer I certifications
Hands-on experience working with Salesforce, including core configuration and automation tools such as Flow
Exposure to Salesforce development concepts and tooling, such as Apex, integrations, or programmatic automation, with interest in continuing to deepen those skills
Experience supporting or delivering solutions for real users, including translating business needs into technical approaches
Comfort working in a client-facing or collaborative environment, with clear written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated curiosity about technology and interest in learning new Salesforce features, third-party applications, or adjacent tools as needs arise
Ability to work across a mix of responsibilities, balancing independent problem-solving with collaboration across roles and teams
Salesforce development experience beyond declarative tools, such as Apex, APIs, Lightning Web Components, or related frameworks
Familiarity with Salesforce development tooling such as VSCode, the Salesforce CLI, etc.
We recognize that strong candidates may come from different backgrounds; we’re focused on foundational skills, problem-solving ability, and willingness to learn, not checking every possible technical box.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the following areas is a plus, but not required:
Development experience beyond the Salesforce platform (e.g. Python, SQL, JavaScript/TypesScript frameworks, etc.)
Experience integrating Salesforce with third-party systems or applications
Exposure to data analysis, reporting, or business intelligence work, including Salesforce reporting and dashboards or external BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau
Familiarity with common nonprofit or higher-education technology tools and platforms (e.g., FormAssembly, marketing, fundraising, or event systems)
Experience triaging and clarifying non-technical issues into actionable tickets, contributing to technical documentation, user guides, or client training.
Prior work in consulting, managed services, or another environment that involves varied clients, projects, or problem domains
Other relevant technical certifications (e.g., Platform App Builder, Power BI Data Analyst Professional, or other)

Job Location:
Boston, MA (hybrid) or virtual (contiguous US)
Benefits:
Company-supported medical, dental, vision
