JOB SUMMARY
The Automation Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing automated production and packaging systems throughout the facility. This role focuses on automation controls, electrical systems, and machine performance to ensure maximum equipment reliability, production uptime, and operational efficiency.
CORE JOB DUTIES
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair automated production and packaging equipment including PLC-controlled systems, sensors, motors, drives, and control devices.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to programmable logic controllers (PLC), human machine interfaces (HMI), variable frequency drives (VFD), and other automation components.
- Maintainproper operation of industrial control systems including I/O devices, relays, contactors, proximity sensors, photoeyes, pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, and level controls.
- Interpret electrical schematics, machine prints, and manufacturer technical documentation to diagnose faults and perform repairs.
- Support installation, commissioning, and startup of new automation equipment and system upgrades.
- Perform preventative maintenance on automated systems including motors, drives, sensors, and control panels.
- Assistwith troubleshooting and optimizing high-speed packaging equipment including baggers, counters, conveyors, labelers, printers, and other automated packaging systems.
- Perform equipment setup, changeover, and parameter adjustments for different product formats and production runs.
- Work with production and engineering teams to minimize downtime and improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Support implementation of process improvements and automation upgrades to increase throughput and operational efficiency.
- Maintainaccurate documentation of maintenance activities, equipment modifications, and troubleshooting actions.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company safety policies including lockout/tagout procedures and OSHA safety requirements.
- Assistwith training operators and maintenance personnel on proper equipment operation and basic troubleshooting procedures.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS
- Minimum of 3 years experienceworking with automated industrial or packaging equipment.
- Demonstratedexperience troubleshooting electrical and automation systems.
- Proficiencyreading electrical schematics and machine documentation.
- Experience with PLC-controlled equipment and industrial control components.
- Familiarity with sensors, relays, motor controls, VFDs, and industrial instrumentation.
- Experience supporting high-speed production or packaging environments preferred.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability.
- Knowledge of industrial safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
- Experience with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley,Mitsubishi, or similar.
- Experience troubleshooting HMI systems and operator interfaces.
- Technical certification or associate degree in Automation, Industrial Controls, Electrical Technology, or related field.
- Experience with industrial networking or SCADA systems is a plus.
