Job Description


Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Engineering


FTE Range $66,000 - $75,813 based on experience

Prof. Catherine Hoar’s research group in the Department of Engineering at Boston College is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to support interdisciplinary projects in the areas of wastewater surveillance, sustainable wastewater treatment, and the fate of emerging contaminants in wastewater and the environment. As part of these projects, the postdoctoral fellow will design and conduct experiments applying culture-based microbiological methods as well as techniques in molecular biology and analytical chemistry.

Depending on the interests of the successful candidate, the position may also include opportunities for teaching, community outreach, and collaboration with industry partners and/or researchers in public health.

This is a 1-year appointment with the possibility for renewal. Preferred start date: February 2026 (negotiable). Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Requirements


  • Applicants should have a PhD in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, environmental health microbiology, applied microbiology, or a related field.
  • Applicants should also have experience with the above-mentioned laboratory techniques (including but not limited to
  • nucleic acid extraction and qPCR),
  • excellent communication skills, and
  • interest in mentoring undergraduate students. Expertise in bioinformatics is a plus.
