Role Overview

Our client is seeking an Operations Technician to support the continuous operation and maintenance of a critical high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system. This role provides round-the-clock system monitoring and operational support for multiple facilities, including a central operations center and two remote converter stations in the Northeast. Reporting to Operations leadership, this position plays an essential role in ensuring system availability, safety, and reliability.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work rotating 12-hour shifts covering days, nights, weekends, and holidays to support continuous operations

  • Provide backup coverage for on-call responsibilities, including emergency or short-notice support

  • Monitor HVDC system performance and availability, including standby and idle operating states

  • Execute remote switching activities, apply ramp-rate calculations, and carry out approved operating instructions

  • Acknowledge alarms, manage operations-related communications, and dispatch maintenance personnel as needed

  • Serve as a key point of contact with regional system operators, internal technical staff, and management teams

  • Maintain detailed operational records, including logs, outage reports, disturbance documentation, and equipment failure summaries

  • Support maintenance and troubleshooting efforts during both scheduled and unplanned outages at converter station facilities

  • Assist engineering teams with operations-focused technical tasks, such as reviewing equipment designs, developing specifications, and sourcing materials

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support evolving operational and business needs

Required Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering , Engineering Technology , or a related technical discipline

  • Strong technical curiosity with the ability to learn, analyze, and understand complex electrical systems

  • Practical, adaptable problem-solving approach with a focus on safety and reliability

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; solid mathematical aptitude

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office ; experience with SCADA systems, control systems, or engineering analysis tools preferred

  • Willingness and ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and familiarity with OSHA and NESC standards

  • Foundational knowledge of electric utility operations and high-voltage transmission systems

  • General awareness of applicable federal, state, and local transmission regulations

  • Willingness to complete extensive internal training and obtain required industry certifications (e.g., NERC, ISO equivalents), including passing examinations and maintaining credentials

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident)

Travel & Scheduling Requirements

  • Valid drivers license required

  • Ability to travel to converter station sites on short notice

  • Flexibility to adjust work hours based on operational demands

Salary: $100,000 - $120,000
