Temporary SLP Position Summary
The Temporary Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide speech and language services during a parental leave coverage period and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized speech and language programming aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role provides both direct and consultative services, collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, and utilizes ABA-informed practices to support communication, learning, and functional independence.
The Temporary SLP will serve as an integral member of the clinical and educational team, supporting speech-related programming, collaborating with experienced clinicians and PhD-level BCBAs, and helping ensure high-quality, data-driven services for students. This role is ideal for a clinician who is adaptable, collaborative, and prepared to step into a fast-paced, highly supportive environment with a strong AAC focus.
Temporary Clinical Fellowship Opportunity
This temporary Speech-Language Pathologist position is designed to provide coverage for a parental leave and is anticipated to last a minimum of six (6) months. Crossroads Continuum is also open to candidates completing their Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) and welcomes passionate clinicians who are eager to grow within a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
While this role is temporary in nature, it may serve as a strong opportunity for future employment consideration or continued collaboration with Crossroads Continuum based on organizational needs and performance.
The selected candidate will join an experienced and supportive clinical team that includes :
- A collaborative team of seven additional Speech and Language staff members
- PhD-level BCBAs and experienced clinical leadership
- Interdisciplinary educational and behavioral teams dedicated to student success
Approximately 70% of our school population utilizes some form of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), making AAC experience, flexibility, and a readiness to “hit the ground running” especially important for success in this role.
This is an exciting opportunity for a clinician who is passionate about autism, communication, interdisciplinary teamwork, and evidence-based practice in a highly specialized educational setting.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Educational Services
- Conduct speech-language assessments, including initial evaluations, three-year evaluations, AAC evaluations, and related reports.
- Develop and implement individualized speech and language goals, objectives, and service delivery models.
- Provide direct therapy and consultative services using best practices in speech-language pathology and ABA.
- Analyze data and student progress to make timely, appropriate programmatic adjustments.
- Review quarterly progress reports and amend IEPs as needed.
- Program, implement, and support Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems.
- Train staff and team members on AAC use, speech goals, and generalization strategies.
- Support Functional Communication Training (FCT) and speech goal generalization across environments.
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with teachers, behavior specialists, administrators, families, school districts, and external consultants.
- Maintain consistent communication with parents regarding speech and language programming.
- Coordinate schedules to support Student Days, IEP meetings, TEAM meetings, and service delivery.
- Communicate concerns related to progress, safety, or family needs to appropriate leadership.
- Serve as an ambassador for Crossroads Continuum and model professionalism and ethical practice.
Leadership & Supervision
- Act as a team leader and positive role model for staff and students.
- Supervise and support Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs).
- Assist the Speech & Language Services Coordinator with supervision and staff development.
- Support hiring efforts, including interviewing and student intake observations, as requested.
- Lead Monthly Speech Consistency Meetings to ensure programming fidelity and progress.
Student Support & School Participation
- Ensure supervision and safety of assigned students.
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including toileting and showering, as needed.
- Participate in field trips, community outings, swimming activities, and extracurricular events.
- Transport students and staff to community locations when required.
- Maintain CALM certification and utilize CALM techniques to ensure safety.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including session notes, attendance, and Medicaid billing.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Licensure
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
- Current Massachusetts licensure in Speech-Language Pathology.
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) preferred (minimum 2 years preferred).
- Candidates eligible for a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) will be considered.
- Experience with ABA-based treatment for individuals with autism strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively while also working independently.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Compassionate, patient, dependable, and mission driven.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and high ethical standards.
- Ability to meet and maintain CALM V&P certification after training.
Physical Requirements
This position involves active engagement in a school-based environment and requires the ability to:
- Move quickly to ensure student safety and intervene when necessary.
- Pursue a bolting student.
- Successfully complete CALM training, including:
- Lifting up to half of body weight
- Pivoting, squatting, kneeling, and prolonged kneeling
- Standing from kneeling while supporting student weight
- Shuffling forward and backward
- Assisting a student to the floor (school setting only)
- Stabilizing a student in standing, seated, prone, or supine positions (school setting only)
- Preferred Experience
- Experience with AAC devices and AAC programming strongly preferred.
- Comfort working within a highly collaborative, ABA-informed school environment.
- Ability to adapt quickly and support a student population where approximately 70% of students utilize AAC systems.
- Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) candidates encouraged to apply.

Please note: The listed compensation is the starting rate for an SLP-CF role. Compensation is scalable and may increase based on experience, certifications, licensure, and educational background.
