Professional Land Surveyor
We are seeking a PLS certified in RI (required) and MA (preferred but not required), specifically those well-versed in AutoCAD / Civil 3D, Civil Engineering field, Stormwater and Land Development. We are a small Civil/Survey firm located in Portsmouth RI, and have been in business for over 40 years. The owner is 2nd gen.
Candidate responsibilities included, but not limited to, managing and performing all phases of land surveying projects in compliance with state laws and professional standards. Providing technical leadership in boundary determination, topographic mapping, construction layout, and land development support. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with leadership, client management, and regulatory knowledge specific to Rhode Island.
Key Responsibilities
-Conduct and oversee boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction, and as-built surveys.
-Research and analyze deeds, plats, plans, and other property records to establish accurate property boundaries.
-Prepare and certify survey plats, legal descriptions, and other deliverables in accordance with Rhode Island Board of Registration standards.
-Manage field and office survey teams, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and safety.
-Utilize GPS, robotic total stations, and other survey instruments to collect and process field data.
-Perform quality control checks and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
-Coordinate with engineers, architects, developers, contractors, and government agencies.
-Mentor and train junior surveyors and technicians.
-Stamp and sign survey documents as the licensed surveyor of record for projects in Rhode Island.
-Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Rhode Island surveying laws, regulations, and professional practices.
-Manage survey team and maintain field scheduling with Project Manager
Qualifications
-Active Rhode Island Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license (required).
-MA and/or CT license preferred but not required.
-Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred).
-Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in land surveying.
-Strong knowledge of Rhode Island land surveying regulations and standards of practice.
-Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, and surveying software, etc.
-UAV pilot license preferred but not mandatory
-Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
-Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites throughout Rhode Island.
Preferred Skills
-Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
-Familiarity with subdivision and land development permitting processes in Rhode Island municipalities.
-Understanding of FEMA flood mapping, title surveys, and boundary dispute resolution.
-Leadership experience supervising survey crews.
-Microsoft Office experience, use of Project Management boards on Monday.com
-Construction Management experience is a plus but not required.
