Position Summary

Under the supervision of Manager of Community and Family Programs, and working with other division and institutional colleagues, the Community and Family Programs Assistant coordinates and supports established programs aimed at family and intergenerational audiences, and forges relationships with family and intergenerational visitors and other institutions that work with this audience. The Programs Assistant also supports the Manager of Community and Family Programs with a variety of community support programs. Some weekend, Monday holiday and evening work is required.
  • Under the leadership of the Manager of Community and Family Programs, the CaF Programs Assistant coordinates, prepares, and staffs a variety of Community and Family Programs, including First Sundays Free, Summer Community Day, Start with Art, Summer Art-Making, ArtLab, Clark Connects Web activities, etc., and occasional off-site initiatives.
  • Under the leadership of the Manager of Community and Family Programs, the CaF Programs Assistant supports a variety of Community Support programs and efforts such as the Rx for Wellbeing program, RAISE, and a growing focus on Art and Wellness programming.
  • In collaboration with supervisor, draft short-term-use ephemera (such as signage, art-making instructions, gallery activity guides) for programs.
  • Build and maintain a Community and Family Programs mailing list, collecting addresses at events. Assist Manager with drafting and sending a regular quarterly newsletter.
  • Maintain public engagement spaces such as ArtLab and the Postcard Station.
  • Plan and arrange for logistical program needs such as reserving space, web event submission, coordination within the Institute, etc. as needed for events in collaboration with other museum departments and staff.
  • Working with supervisor, maintain and disseminate program statistics and reports.
  • Working with supervisor, help to collect event feedback and evaluations.
  • Research, order, and prepare materials for program activities and organize materials post-event, working with supervisor to plan and project programming throughout the year.
  • Research and propose artists and vendors to participate in programs as appropriate, working with supervisor to plan and project programming throughout the year.
  • Work with supervisor on budgets, including preparing, sending and recording contracts, and communicating contractual components with other involved museum staff members.
  • Assist with supervision of program interns and docent volunteers in material preparation and staffing events.
  • Model and encourage visitor interactions that are warm, welcoming, and inclusive.
  • Obtain a working knowledge of the Clark collection and special exhibitions, best practices in museum education, and local/regional organizations that work with family and intergenerational audiences.
  • Other department work as assigned as needed such as help to prepare mailings for Education programs, and other support activities for education programs and staff.
  • Serve on staff committees as needed.
Hourly Rate Range: $19.50-$21.75

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training, Qualities and Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree, and formal art training preferred.
  • Art-making experience with a variety of media strongly preferred.
  • Enjoys and values interacting with a diverse audience.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills; the ability and desire to work as part of a small and dedicated team.
  • Commitment to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle preferred.
Work Experience
  • Minimum of one year experience with program planning and working for/with organizations that serve children and families preferred.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to sit at a desk/workstation and use a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to stand for up to four hours.
  • Ability to bend and reach.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
Work Environment:
  • Work will be performed in an office environment and museum spaces (including outdoor spaces).
  • Occasional exposure to elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, or chemicals.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
