Springfield College invites applications for part-time adjunct faculty positions for the Fall 2026 semester in Criminal Justice, teaching one section of CRIM 215, Gender Race, and Crime and/or one section of CRIM 260 Criminology. The ideal candidate(s) will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students' diverse needs and engage students in critical thinking and problem-solving.

Compensation for adjunct faculty with fewer than 3 years college teaching experience is $2820 for a 3-credit course
Compensation for adjunct faculty with 3 or more years college teaching experience is $3513 for a 3-credit course.

Responsibilities

CRIM 21 Gender, Race, and Crime
The course meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, at 2:40-3:55pm, in person. Classes start right after Labor Day. The course studies how gender, race, and class affect criminal laws and criminal justice policies and practices. Students consider the position of females and racial minorities from the perspectives of victims, offenders, and criminal justice practitioners. Topics include racial profiling, sentencing disparities, hate crime legislation, zero-tolerance policies, the war on drugs, and intimate partner violence.

CRIM 260 Criminology
The course meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:15-2:30pm, in person. Classes start right after Labor Day. This course studies crime patterns, behaviors and institutional practices in addressing the crime problem. This course will examine the nature of crime in relation to the social, economic, and political processes in exploring the behaviors of individuals processed through the criminal justice system. Structural, social, psychological and environmental approaches are frequently used in the direction of differentiating the criminal from the non-criminal.

  • BA/BS required for all courses
  • MS, MA, or MEd required for graduate courses with PhD preferred.
