Student Advisor – EXPLO Middle School Summer Program
Wellesley College | Wellesley, MA
$4,000 + Housing & Meals Included
June 24–July 26, 2026 (4.5 weeks)
Make This Your Most Meaningful Summer!
Spend your summer making a real impact. As an EXPLO Advisor, you'll mentor middle schoolers, build an inclusive community, and gain hands-on leadership experience—all while living on the beautiful Wellesley College campus.
This isn't a typical summer job. The days are long, the work is fast-paced, and you'll be challenged. But if you're energetic, adaptable, and genuinely care about young people, this experience will shape how you think about education, leadership, and yourself.
About the Program:
EXPLO Middle School is a 4-week academic enrichment program serving students entering grades 7–9. Students participate in immersive courses like Veterinary Science, Medical Rotations, or our signature EXPLO 360° rotating academic experience.
Your role: You'll be a mentor, supervisor, and community builder who helps create a safe, joyful, and transformative summer for every student.
What You'll Do:
Daily Responsibilities:
- Supervise and mentor a group of middle school students alongside a co-Advisor
- Support instructors during classes and activities
- Plan and lead afternoon activities, evening programs, and weekend trips around Boston
- Create a positive, inclusive living environment in the residence halls (residential roles) or support day students
- Participate in on-call rotation to ensure student safety and wellbeing
- Take on a specialized role based on your strengths (examples: activities coordinator, supplies manager, communications lead, or teach an elective for additional pay)
What a typical day looks like: You'll wake up with your students, support the Program while students are in classes, lead an afternoon activity, help facilitate evening programs, ensure lights-out goes smoothly, and check in with your Advisor throughout the day. Days are full, collaborative, and rewarding.
Who Thrives in This Role:
You're a strong candidate if you:
- Have completed at least one year of college by June 2026
- Genuinely enjoy working with 11–14 year olds and the energy that comes with it
- Thrive in team environments and stay positive when things get hectic
- Have prior experience with youth (camp counselor, tutor, coach, babysitter, mentor, teacher's aide, etc.)
- Can commit to living on campus for the full 4.5 weeks
- Are authorized to work in the U.S. or able to obtain work authorization by June 2026
What You'll Gain:
This isn't just a line on your résumé. You'll develop:
- Real leadership and mentorship skills
- Experience in conflict resolution and community building
- Classroom support and educational programming experience
- Event planning and logistics coordination
- A strong network of peers and professional references
Ideal for college students interested in: Education, youth development, psychology, social work, counseling, nonprofit work, program management, or anyone exploring a career working with young people.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Pay: $4,000 for 4.5 weeks
- Bonus: Additional stipend available if you teach an elective
- Housing: Free on-campus room for the full program
