Audio machine learning
You know the moment. It’s the first notes of that song you love, the intro to your favorite movie, or simply the sound of someone you love saying “hello.” It’s in these moments that sound matters most.
At Bose, we believe sound is the most powerful force on earth. We’ve dedicated ourselves to improving it for more than 60 years. And we’re passionate down to our bones about making whatever you’re listening to a little more magical. The Engineering team at Bose is a thriving, passionate, deeply skilled team of professionals from a broad range of disciplines and experiences, who share a common goal—to create products that provide transformative sound experiences. Job Description THE ROLE The goal of our small but high-impact team is to research and develop AI-powered audio processing algorithms. The twist is that our algorithms have to run on live audio, in real time, on real devices for applications such as voice pickup, hearing augmentation and next gen immersive audio. As part of the team, you will work with experts in deep learning, digital signal processing, software engineering and psychoacoustics to prototype and implement new algorithms. Current research topics include machine learning (ML) methods for single- and multi-channel audio signal processing, speech synthesis and resynthesis and audio latent representation disentanglement in the context of low-latency ML models for low resource devices. Bose has a strong history of combining creative thinking with cutting-edge technology in the audio domain. We are looking for candidates passionate about machine learning and audio to help us shape the next chapter in the future of Bose! Responsibilities As an intern in our team, a substantial portion of your time will be devoted to prototyping and implementing ML and software-based solutions and experiences. You will investigate novel algorithms, evaluate them against objective and perceptual metrics, help curate and develop large internal audio datasets, and present your results. You will integrate your novel solutions into new and existing systems and platforms to deliver new proofs of concept. As a member of our team, you will have a chance to contribute to projects, which will be shipped to thousands of Bose customers, submit patents for novel work, and potentially submit papers to top-tier AI and signal processing conferences (NeurIPS, ICASSP, Interspeech, WASPAA, etc.). Requirements Pursuing or recently finished a degree in ML, Computer Science or a related field. Graduate-level candidates are preferred, but the position is open to any student or recent grad with the right skillset, interest and motivation. At a minimum, candidates should be familiar with the material covered in introductory courses on linear algebra, machine learning, digital signal processing and statistics. Skills Able to develop in Python, Tensorflow, PyTorch and/or C/C++. Strong understanding of Audio DSP concepts, Data Analysis, Machine Learning. Familiarity with AI methods for source separation, speech synthesis, speech resynthesis, neural codecs, voice transformation. Familiarity with standard software development practices (version control, testing, microservices). Strong communication skills. You will collaborate closely with our research group and present your work internally to a large, interdisciplinary audience on a regular basis. Bose is an equal opportunity employer.
