Preclinical In Vivo Associate II
Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join a preclinical in vivo pharmacology associates’ team in a fast-paced and collaborative environment at the Experimental Therapeutics Core Facility at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The position reports directly to the Head of Experimental Therapeutics Core.
The individual will work closely with the preclinical and clinical scientists at the Institute and leading industry collaborators to design and execute oncology-related mouse studies. Individuals will have access to extensive training in mouse handling and in vivo skills necessary for procedures to participate in the preclinical research setting actively. Studies focus on cancer model development and testing a variety of novel cancer therapies by monitoring in vivo disease progression through various modalities- like bioluminescence imaging, flow cytometry, or caliper measurement. Studies run through the Experimental Therapeutics Core lead to further world-class research or high-ranked publications.
A successful candidate requires the ability to organize and manage a workload independently while aiding team members in building a collaborative environment. They would need to keep detailed, accurate records of completed studies to report findings to investigators, resulting in further research or publication.

Responsibilities:
- Routine handling, restraint, identification (including ear notching and tattooing) of mice or rats.
- Establish and maintain mouse and rat cancer models to test efficacy, tolerability, and PK/PD of novel therapeutics.
- Independently execute in vivo studies by dosing therapeutics agents by various routes (e.g., oral gavage, intraperitoneal, intravenous)
- Monitor cancer progression through bioluminescence imaging, flow cytometry, or caliper measurements.
- Perform blood drawings, necropsies, and process ex vivo samples.
- Mammalian cell culture and maintenance of cell lines.
- Interpret, present, and document experiments based on data generated to investigators, often leading to further experiments or publications.
- Responsible for maintaining and reporting accurate records of inventory/ equipment.
- Follow IACUC requirements (animal standard operating procedures) and DFCI institutional guidelines and policies.
- Provide any necessary training and support to staff members. Work within a team environment, while maintaining independent responsibilities. Mentor team members and take on project leadership responsibilities.
- Acts independently to determine methods and procedures for new or special assignments and may coordinate activities of other staff. Work within a team environment, while maintaining independent responsibilities, and taking on some project related leadership responsibilities.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS: ( Education, certifications, years of experience )
- Bachelor’s degree required with a major in biology, Animal Sciences or related Life Sciences preferred.
- Requires a minimum of 2 years related experience in academia and/or pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
- Builds productive internal/external working relationships.
- Having wide-ranging experience, uses technical concepts and Institute objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
- Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
- Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
- Networks with key contacts outside our own area of expertise.

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.
For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
