Compliance & Client Response Manager

Boston, MA

A leading international economics consulting firm is seeking a Compliance & Client Response Manager to join its Boston-based team.

The Compliance Manager works closely with the Director of Compliance and other members of the Legal, Conflicts, and Compliance teams, and is responsible for overseeing activities such as responding to client requests for information concerning the firm’s consulting and administrative capabilities, policies, and procedures, and assisting with compliance activities across the firm. The Compliance Manager will work closely with senior staff to ensure that the firm’s compliance efforts and responses to requests are complete and comprehensive.

The position requires exceptional written communication skills, strong business judgment, and the ability to think strategically. The successful candidate will be intellectually curious, highly motivated to learn, and eager to develop deep institutional knowledge of the firm’s business, clients, and compliance obligations. They will take pride in producing thoughtful, high-quality work and will proactively seek opportunities to improve processes.

The Compliance Manager must also be highly organized and execution-oriented, with the ability to assess incoming requests, establish priorities, and efficiently drive multiple projects to completion. Success in this role requires balancing strategic thinking with strong project management skills, sound judgment, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, prioritize, and triage time-sensitive incoming Compliance requests (e.g., client requests such as audit responses, questionnaires, RFIs and RFPs; internal inquiries from consultants and administrative groups); establish appropriate response strategies and ensure timely execution.
  • Lead multiple concurrent projects and compliance initiatives from inception through completion, coordinating stakeholders, managing timelines, and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the firm’s compliance obligations, client requirements, and business operations in order to identify risks, anticipate needs, and provide thoughtful, strategic guidance.
  • Review drafts of initial responses prepared by junior members of the Compliance team and work with colleagues across the firm to create the final response; implement quality control measures to ensure responses are accurate and well written.
  • Track client requests to comply with healthcare client SOPs and other training requirements and monitor consultants’ compliance with training and internal and client SOPs.
  • In collaboration with the Compliance team, contribute to the design, implementation, and oversight of processes that allow the firm to monitor and comply with obligations imposed by contract and other regulatory requirements imposed by clients.
  • Work with the Compliance team and other internal teams to identify opportunities for process improvement (e.g., use of IT tools and resources) to improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of this function.
  • Serve as a trusted resource to colleagues by building expertise in evolving client requirements and firm policies, and translating that knowledge into practical recommendations and effective compliance processes.
  • Partner with the Director of Compliance on new initiatives as the Compliance function expands and as the Compliance Manager develops increasing levels of institutional knowledge.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Law degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of substantive relevant experience.
  • An ideal candidate will have 6-8 years of professional experience.
  • Prior legal experience or prior experience working in a professional services firm or in the life sciences industry strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, exercise independent and sound business judgment, and balance competing priorities.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise, and compelling responses for clients and senior level management across the firm.
  • Extraordinary customer service skills, accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to organize and work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize projects, meet deadlines, and be flexible to respond to shifting internal and client demands.
  • Strong ability to conduct independent research, identify information gaps, and develop well-reasoned solutions while advancing projects with minimal supervision.
  • Enthusiasm for continuous learning, developing subject matter expertise, and taking ownership of both deliverables and the ongoing evolution of the Compliance function.
  • To the extent permitted by applicable law, eligible candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship or restriction, now and in the future.
