Role:

The Inside Mortgage Originator is responsible for originating residential mortgage and home equity loans through inbound inquiries, internal referrals, and proactive outreach. This role serves as the primary point of contact for members during the early stages of the loan process, including application intake and initial processing. The Inside Mortgage Originator works collaboratively with assigned processors and underwriters to ensure timely, accurate, and member-focused delivery of mortgage services.

Essential Functions Responsibilities:

• Originate residential mortgage and home equity loans by handling inbound inquiries, conducting outbound follow-up, and leveraging internal and external referrals.
• Conduct member consultations to assess financial needs and recommend appropriate mortgage solutions.
• Complete all aspects of the initial processing stage, including:
  • Application intake
  • Credit report pulls
  • Collection of required documents
  • Preparation and delivery of early disclosures
  • Submission of files to processing/underwriting
• Maintain consistent communication with members to ensure timely receipt of outstanding documentation and to provide updates throughout the loan process.
• Collaborate closely with assigned mortgage processors and underwriters to resolve conditions, address issues, and move loans efficiently through the pipeline.
• Track and manage loan activity in the loan origination system, ensuring data accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in sales campaigns and outreach initiatives to grow mortgage volume and deepen member relationships.
• Engage in community service activities and support the credit union’s mission to promote financial literacy and housing education through workshops, events, or volunteer opportunities.
• Protect the credit union’s image and member trust by maintaining strict confidentiality of all mortgage loan information and related communications.
• Stay current on mortgage products, regulatory updates, and underwriting guidelines.

Knowledge & Skills

3-5 years of similar or related experience.
High school diploma or GED.
In depth understanding of secondary market underwriting guidelines.
Ability to product sales results.
Strong networking and prospecting skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with Mass. Housing, FHA, Fanie Mae, including use of Desktop Underwriter.
Proficient ub Cakyx or similar loan processing system.
Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
Audit & financial skills.
Customer service skills.
Decision making.

This is a hybrid position and requires 1 to 2 days per week in-person.
