Position Overview: The Legislative Aide assists Representative Haggerty in the discharge of the Representatives official duties by providing communication legislative and administrative support services.
Reports to: State Representative or at the discretion of the Representative to the Staff Director.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Manage constituent inquiries and casework including creation/maintenance of database of constituent requests;
Support Representative Haggertys assigned committee and commission work including but not limited to hearing/meeting preparation;
Provide Representative Haggerty with basic administrative support but not limited to answering phones and taking messages greeting visitors and other tasks as may be assigned;
Maintain Representative Haggertys schedule;
Serve as liaison with Representative Haggertys constituents;
Serve as liaison with federal local and other state government offices;
Research and resolve questions and problems of constituents stakeholders and other interest groups;
Prepare testimony on sponsored and co-sponsored legislation;
Prepare summaries of legislation and briefing materials;
Prepare legislative updates for public viewing;
Draft monitor file and track legislation budget items and legislative amendments;
Attend meetings hearings and forums on behalf of Representative Haggerty;
Supervise interns and volunteers in coordination with the House intern program; and
Create and maintain social media content for Representative Haggerty
Required Skills/Attributes:
Ability to operate in a fast-paced professional office environment; handle or operate standard office equipment and occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
Strong digital communication and social media proficiency;
Ability to interface and collaborate with different communities and personalities in a professional and helpful manner;
Ability to multi-task effectively work independently and meet deadlines on short notice;
Excellent research analytical and interpersonal skills;
Excellent writing communication and social media skills;
Ability to communicate with Legislators and colleagues effectively and provide and receive feedback professionally;
Strong organizational skills including but not limited to calendar and email management and the ability to prioritize tasks as needed; and
Ability to follow up and complete tasks.
Preferred Education and Work Experience:
Bachelors degree required with a demonstrated record of excellent academic performance.
Although prior experience in a specific field is not required competitive candidates will present clear evidence of strong achievement in rigorous professional settings.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position requiring a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. The primary work location is the State House with additional travel to the district for constituent meetings and services as well as occasional travel to other locations across Massachusetts for meetings or events. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday though hours may vary and can include evenings and weekends to support Representative Haggertys legislative and constituent responsibilities.
