Position Information: Contracted Student Internship: Environmental Justice Intern (EJ) Start/End Date: 6/1/2026 - 8/14/2026 Salary Rate: $0.00 (UNPAID Internship) Weekly Hours: 10 hours Number of Openings: 1 position This internship is unpaid and designed to support students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in the field. Interns may be eligible to earn academic credit through their college or university. General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is seeking to hire an intern for the Summer 2026 to work 10 hours per week. The candidate will work with DCR's Senior Director of Environmental Justice to learn about the agency's strategies and identify a project to work on related to environmental justice (EJ), language access, and/or public involvement. Potential projects are not limited to but may include streamlining how DCR offers document translation services and language interpretation services to the public, developing training resources for internal staff, assisting in the update of strategy documents, and tracking EJ related program implementation. Detailed Duties and Responsibilities: * The incumbent will become familiar with DCR's EJ Strategy and attending internal and cross-agency EJ meetings as available. * Taking on responsibility of one project, with guidance from the Senior Director of Environmental Justice, completing agreed up on milestones by the end of the internship. * Assisting with updates and implementation of DCR's language access plan. * Other tasks related to environmental justice and public involvement activities, upon request, time permitting. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with environmental justice principles, issues, or programming, which may include language access services and public engagement, is desired, though not required. * Applicants who are motivated to learn about these topics and contribute to the agency's work within these areas will be prioritized. * Applicants should have good time management skills, be organized, and be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
